Fani-Kayode Meets Bail Conditions, Remains In Detention

TheBrief can exclusively reports that former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode has met the bail conditions set by a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos.

A reliable source disclosed to TheBrief that Fani-Kayode perfected his bail conditions on Monday but remains in detention because the EFCC is yet to verify the documents submitted for the bail application.His media aide, Jude Ndukwe, also confirmed the development, adding that “despite the fact that he has been locked up for the last 62 days, he remains confident, strong, healthy and in very high spirits. He misses his family very badly, especially his five month old son Aragon, and he looks forward to coming home to be with his family, friends and loved ones”.
The former Director of Media and Publicity of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP Presidential Campaign Organization, and 3 others were arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on a 17-count charge bordering on money laundering and diversion of public funds for personal use.
Fani-Kayode, former Minister of Finance, Nenadi Esther Usman, a businessman, Danjuma Yusuf and Jointrust, were arraigned by the EFCC, before Justice Hassan of the Federal High Court in Lagos.
Before his arraignment, Fani-Kayode released a statement suggesting that the EFCC, intends to jail him for 5 years without trial.
He was detained for 41 days without trial, sparking protests from his supporters and the PDP.
He has since denied the charges, challenging the All Progressives Congress, APC, to reveal the sources of its campaign funds in 2015.
He insisted that he did no wrong in using the money his party allocated to his office, to pursue the set goals during the campaign.
Ruling on their bail applications, Justice Hassan granted the defendants bail in the sum of Two Hundred and Fifty Million Naira each with two sureties in like sum.
The sureties must have landed property within the jurisdiction of the court and deposit their Title Documents with the Chief Registrar of the court. The Title Documents shall be verified by the EFCC within seven days. The sureties shall also file affidavit of means and deposit their International passport with the court.
