A middle-aged man, identified only as Arogoy,
has reportedly handed his son over to the police in Delta State for his alleged
involvement in robbery.
Arogoy’s
son, David, had reportedly been on the wanted list of the State Police Command
for armed robbery.
On
March 14, David was said to have returned home very late at night with bullet
wounds on his body.
Following
his arrival, his father reportedly turned him in at the Ekpan Police Division
in Uvwie Local Government Area, LGA, of the state.
According
to the father, his son had returned home ‘in agony’ in the wee hours of the
said day and “I had to report the case to the police for my own safety,” The
Punch quoted the father to have said.
Arogoy
stated that based on the information he got, David and his gang members, had
gone on a robbery operation at the Edo Guest House in the said LGA where they
ran into the police and during a shootout, the gang leader identified as Oga
Kenneth, was reportedly killed.
David
escaped with the wounds in the process, only to be sent to the police by his
father on his arrival at home.
The
Divisional Police Officer, DPO, in charge of the division, Chris Sorgbara, a
Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP), who confirmed the incident, said David
was under police investigation whilst he received treatment at an undisclosed
hospital.
According
to Sorgbara, the victim’s father also informed the police that his son had been
in the armed robbery business for long and he did not want to be seen as aiding
and abetting his child.
