We are the future. There is no future for Nigeria outside of us

Truly, Nigerians have the capacity for survival. Legendary musician Fela Anikulapo-Kuti captured that spirit in his famous hit release, “Suffering and smiling” We have the resilience and capacity to weather any storm, stand tall in any situation, and still remain ebullient. This essence, this magic that makes us distinctively Nigerian is a rare convertible asset for national development, especially, because the journey to our new Nigeria will require sacrifice, patience, strategy, persistence, courage and strong resolve.

fatherland. The vision of our founding fathers was enshrined in unity and faith, peace and progress: a collective will to foster unity, equality and love for our country and one another; believe in a country that would care for her citizen and play leadership roles in Africa and elsewhere, but today, 55 years after independence, mismanagement of resources, absence of peace and unity and corruption are rife of our society.

Our journey to a new Nigeria must begin in our individual minds: a fresh patriotic devotion, respect for our commonwealth and a deliberate effort to connect effectively with fellow Nigerians (though tribe and tongue may differ); embrace public interaction through proactive and selfless outreach; strive to bridge the gap between those who have and are willing to share and those who are lacking but deserving of help and awaken our consciousness to the glaring number of neglected people living amongst us without a hope and dying of hunger. As we begin to recognize and acknowledge these realities at national, state, communal, and individual levels, then our journey to a new Nigeria will truly begin.
